Description

Wakefield—The Room to Write invites you to come by for a cup of hot cocoa and sweet treats, but stay for the creative community on Tuesday, March 12th from 6:00-8:30pm at the Boys & Girls Club of Wakefield. This event is open to all kids and teens from all communities.

This is a fun and casual way to instill a love for literacy and an interest in creativity. Youth, preschool to high school, will meet and get to know twelve local authors, including two author/illustrators, who are the brains behind the books kids read.

Youth will have a chance to take a scavenger hunt, ask questions, make some art, try out our typewriters, take home lots of creative inspiration as well as a signed book for FREE—while supplies last—thanks to a generous Employee Vibrant Community Grant from Corning Incorporated and a partnership with Whitelam Books.

Festivities will start with each youth receiving a simple scavenger hunt and Follow Your Art Community Studios, located in Melrose, will guide participants through some creative expression and offer up some visual art tips to participants.

We are proud to partner with Whitelam Books, located in Reading, and excited to announce that The Room to Write will be giving away 100 BOOKS FREE. Books were purchased locally and written by twelve local authors.

The published authors and illustrators represent twelve different titles ranging in genres from picture books and young readers/chapter books to middle grade novels, young adult novels and one graphic novel. Participating authors, in alphabetical order, are: Janet Costa Bates (Rica Baptista: Llamas, Iguanas, and My Very Best Friend), Rebecca Caprara (Spin), Carol Gordon Ekster (Trucker Kid), Betsy Ellor (My Dog is NOT a Scientist), Fred Gracely (Misfit’s Magic), Samantha Lewis (Nature Activity Book for Little Ones), Kari Percival (How to Say Hello to a Worm), Shawn M. Peters (The Unforgettable Logan Foster Book #1), Lisa Stringfellow (Comb of Wishes), Susan Tan (My Kingdom of Darkness: A Branches Book, Pets Rule! #1), Dirk Tiede (Paradigm Shift) and Kip Wilson (One Last Shot).

Stop by this free event open to young people from all surrounding communities anytime on Tuesday, March 12th from 6:00 pm until 8:30pm at the Boys & Girls Club of Wakefield's location on the ground floor of the Civic Center, 467 Main St, Wakefield, MA.
