And just like that, it's the Fourth of July, my favorite holiday of the year. the laid-back vibe, the community gatherings, the red-white-and-blue everything. It’s a holiday that feels joyful and carefree, filled with backyard barbecues, parades, popsicles, and staying up late for fireworks. It’s a celebration that brings people together in the simplest, happiest ways—and around here, we do it right.
Thursday, July 3: Family Movie Night at Green St. Park
Kickoff the Fourth with a fun-filled night that's brining an outdoor movie, a bounce house, games, a basketball shooting contest and music! If you're planning to stay for the movie, bring a chair or picnic blanket.
Friday, July 4: Wakefield's Fourth of July Celebration
Wakefield's annual Fourth of July celebration is one of my childhood favorites. There's a parade, music and some of the best local fireworks around. If you're planning to watch close to the lake, a reminder to bring bug repellant, though!
Friday, July 4: Events Across Malden!
Malden is having events at nearly every park on Friday, so if your little ones need to burn off energy in a bounce house somewhere, head to one of these events in the morning!
Friday, July 4: 4th of July 5K
I know not all of us thinking a 5k on a holiday is the pinnacle of fun, but... some of us do (and some of us forget to register every single year...), but if your kids love a craft, why not make a sign for the runners in Lynnfield's annual 5k? 🙃
Friday, July 4: Celebration at Melrose Common
If you love a parade, Melrose is the place for you (it starts at 10 a.m. sharp so be mindful of road closures). Attendees are encouraged to decorate bikes, wagons, carriages, scooters and more! There will also be face painting, games, activities and crafts.
Friday, July 4: Free Concert
And, finally, on July 4, you can enjoy a free concert at Mount Hood (and you might be able to catch a view of a fireworks show from there... but I'm bad at maps, so don't quote me on that).
Saturday, July 5: Independence Day Celebration
One last, fun-filled park celebration in Malden (honesty, hats off to the folks in Malden for bringing the fun), that'll offer bounce houses, water slides and more.
