The weather in the Boston area may not consistently feel like summer yet with all the rain, but kids are out of school and it’s time to prepare for sunnier days. As long as you have a yard, beach or other outdoor space, any of these 13 outdoor play ideas for kids are fun to have around!
Stomp Rockets - These go up to 200 feet into the air and are fun for both individual and group play. They make a great gift. For ages 5 and up - but I know my 3-year-old would even have fun with stomp rockets!
SoppyCid Reusable Water Balloons - This may be the outdoor toy of summer - I’m seeing them everywhere! I’ve been told you want to buy this brand because others have reviews stating the magnets have fallen out.
Step2 Woodland Climber Playset - This highly recommended playset for ages 2-6 not only has a slide, but also climbing walls, steering wheels, and different levels to hide, crawl, and play in.
Step2 All Around Playtime Patio - If you have the space, this larger playset is fun for kids ages 2-8 thanks to all the fun features it has. It has 16 accessories, from a grill and sink, to a water table, cover for sand, snack table and more. As an added bonus, it’s covered to keep your little ones out of the sun.
Eezy Peezy Monkey Bars Climbing Tower - My niece and nephew love having this in their backyard. When the cousins got together, they all had fun playing on it together. Good for ages 3 and up.
UNO Splash! - This waterproof version of UNO is perfect for sitting poolside when you need a break from the sun.
Jumbo Connect 4 - We’ve used this many times at breweries and other outdoor, kid-friendly venues. If you have the space, it would be a great family purchase for the backyard!
SplashEZ Non Slip Splash Pad - This splash pad came highly recommended thanks to its size and durability. Even dogs can go in it!
Bubble Leaf Blower - A fun twist on a bubble machine, this can either be placed on the ground or carried around.
Pop ‘N Catch - We had this on a recent beach vacation and it was fun for both my 3-year-old and adults. It kept her entertained on her own but playing catch is also fun!
Giant Jenga - If your kids are a bit older, they’ll have fun with this oversized version of the classic Jenga toy.
Little Tikes Basketball Hoop - You can’t go wrong with this height-adjustable basketball hoop. It’s affordable and kids will love learning to play.
edxeducation Step-a-Trail Obstacle Course - Both my daughter and nephew have and love this toy. The circular and longer pieces each stack together making it easy to store.
